BRIEF
AdBlur is a diegetic critical design prototype created to showcase a speculative take on a top-down approach to the regulation of pervasive screen advertising in HDB lift lobbies — ultimately, intervention — by a fictional overseeing government body.

Deliverables and research were done in response to the introduction of urban screen advertising into non-commercial spaces (residential and commute) in 2019. Printed deliverables include two satirically written letters detailing the government’s top-down approach, as well as a spoof advertisement brochure featuring visualisations and statistical insights while detailing their geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioural attributes.

Akin to sunglasses blocking light from the sun, AdBlur screen-glasses block light emitted from digital screens within the urban built environment of Singapore.

The diagetic prototype is supplemented by a satirical letter distributed alongisde the mass-produced product by a fictional government body.
Following are bouts of research done in the five most populous neighbourhoods of Singapore in order to inform the overarching project, The State of Advertising.
